Sansho peppercorn: Genuine Japanese flavor available in Europe
Sansho peppercorn, a classic Japanese spice, adds distinctive taste and aroma to dishes. FNC Kyoto now brings this Japanese green jewel to European cuisine.
**Benefits of Sansho peppercorn**
Sansho peppercorn not only delivers a sharp, spicy flavour but also offers a refreshing citrus aroma, as it is a small fruit related to yuzu. It contains limonene, which is believed to help you relax and stimulate your appetite.
This peppercorn features in many Japanese dishes, such as meat, grilled fish, sashimi, sushi, tempura, hot pot, and onigiri rice balls. Sansho can be used as an alternative to yuzu, making it ideal for sauces and seasonings. Additionally, it pairs well with chocolate and gelato.
In traditional Chinese medicine, Sansho peppercorn is considered beneficial for health.

What is sansho?
Zanthoxylum piperitum, or Japanese pepper (sansho), is a spiny, aromatic shrub from Japan and Korea belonging to the Rutaceae family. Its peppercorns are used for flavoring in Japan. FNC offers Sansho peppercorns fresh (frozen on delivery) and salted (shipped at room temperature).
How can we use sansho?
Sansho peppercorns are primarily utilized in the Japanese dish known as Chirimen-sansho, which consists of dried whitebait seasoned with sansho. However, sansho can also serve as an alternative to other citrus fruits in various culinary applications, such as pasta and salad.
